CTET’s Deputy Director, Dr Laura Bray, has been awarded a Young Tall Poppy award for 2020. The prestigious Young Tall Poppy Science Awards recognise achievements of Australia’s outstanding young scientific researchers and communicators.
Dr Bray (QUT) co-founded the Mater-IHBI Breast Cancer Biobank to facilitate rapid access to patient breast cancer tissue for Brisbane-based researchers. Her lab manufactures 3D mini-tissues to study cancer and collaborates with international partners to mimic tissues of the breast, prostate, brain, bone/bone marrow, and cartilage.
Using of state-of-the-art matrix engineering techniques, Dr Bray’s research has led to a number of significant advances in knowledge in the area of 3D tissue engineering and culture techniques. Her work has helped clarify the potential role of the matrix environment in 3D epithelial cell cultivation and provided new insights into mimicking the natural tissue environment in vitro.
